I am converting a 14" Cincinnati dividing head to to make a 4th and 5th axis for my Mill. I have some nice o AC server motors with lashless gear reducers on them to use for this. The picture of the DH is not mine but identical, the mill is mine.
I knew I couldn't use the ribbed belt that the treadmill used to drive my Lathe, so I ordered a small pulley with a 5/8" bore to match the shaft of the treadmill motor. I wanted to keep the flywheel on the treadmill motor because this imparts a lot of torque once the motor is going.
Do this after you install a new belt and adjust the belt tension. This reduces spindle noise. Lightly apply PN 99-4521A GREASE, SILICONE – 5.3 OZ [A] to (5) teeth on the motor pulley [1]. Manually turn the spindle [1] until each pulley and belt has a thin layer of grease. Remove all excess grease.

OK, so I'm going to have to make a system of belts, pulleys and bearings to convert engine motion to move the blade. I removed the original pulley from the electric motor. I then took measurements from the motor to figure out depth through the hole in saw housing. I wanted this part to be strong so I opted for 3/4" pillow blocks.

I'm not going to take the easy route and get one from the USA, the postage costs are too prohibitive, so I'm going to make one to my own design, albeit based on the plans which are readily available on the internet.

Unlike the early-model mini-mills, there are no gears in the drive train, which were often a source of trouble. (Note: the new SX2 model mini-mill also uses a brushless DC motor and belt drive). After having used my Mini Mill for a few years I managed to overload it while using a fly cutter and suffered the common occurance of the broken plastic intermediate gear. An internet search found the cure for this, the Belt Drive Conversion. The quick and easy way to do it is to buy the kit from the Little Machine Shop or Sterling Steele.
I came up with this idea to make it possible to convert an old belt-driven hammermill to pto drive using an old plow tire and axle. The hammermill should run at 2,000 to 3,000 rpm's - the pto runs at 540 - so the tire speeds it up. I mounted a driveshaft in the middle of the wheel and the tire runs against the belt pulley.
